Baseball Game Preview: Connellsville Falcons vs. Baldwin Highlanders

The Connellsville Falcons will face off against the Baldwin Highlanders at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Considering both teams were shutout in their prior games, the pair is probably coming into this one with something to prove.

Connellsville will face Baldwin after dropping another heartbreaker against Thomas Jefferson on Wednesday, which marked the third time in a row the team's come within 2.1 of beating them. The Falcons came up short against the Jaguars, falling 6-0. It was the first time this season that the Falcons let down their fans at home.

Mason Miller was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Connellsville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chase Sankovich, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double. Matthew Firestone was another, going 2-for-3 with one double.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Baldwin's offense. They lost 10-0 to Shaler Area on Thursday. The Highlanders' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Baldwin's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Connellsville, their loss dropped their record down to 8-3.

Connellsville skirted past Baldwin 5-3 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Do the Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Highlanders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
