Recap: Aspen Skiers vs. Summit Tigers
The Aspen Skiers were the 47-31 winner over the Summit Tigers when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Aspen took a hard 63-47 fall against Summit on Tuesday. Aspen has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.
Aspen lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jack Berro, who scored nine points. Tommy Franceschi was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Summit to victory, but perhaps none more so than Eduardo Gutierrez, who scored 27 points. Gutierrez is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hank Chabot, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Aspen's loss ended a nine-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-3. As for Summit, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Aspen won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Steamboat Springs at 5:30 p.m. on February 7th. Hopefully Steamboat Springs focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five last Friday. As for Summit, they will head out on the road to take on Moffat County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Summit knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Moffat County likes a good challenge.
