The Magoffin County Hornets will square off against the Jackson City Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Magoffin County has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with eight straight losses, while Jackson City will come in with three straight wins.
Magoffin County couldn't beat Knott County Central on Saturday even though they stacked four runs on them in the third inning. The Hornets came up short against the Patriots, falling 14-4.
Evan Reed was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. Chance Risner was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Jackson City let Menifee County stack four runs on them in the fourth inning on Monday but luckily Jackson City prevailed anyway. The Tigers narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Wildcats 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since May 2nd.
Gavan Ritchie made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Jackson City: the team is 6-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 9-10 otherwise. Ritchie was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Jacob Morgan was incredible, going 1-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Jackson City's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 8-2 (and 7-9 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jagger Lovins, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base.
Jackson City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Magoffin County's defeat dropped their record down to 2-22. As for Jackson City, their victory bumped their record up to 15-11.
