Softball Game Preview: Richlands Wildcats vs. Dixon Bulldogs

The Richlands Wildcats will challenge the Dixon Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Richlands has nine straight victories, Dixon has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

It was a proper cat-fight when Richlands took on Croatan two weeks ago. The Wildcats walked away with a 5-2 win over the Cougars.

Makenzie Goin made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

Goin wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jordan Meece, who went 1-for-3 with two runs. That's the most runs Meece has posted since back in March.

Meanwhile, Dixon didn't have quite enough to beat White Oak on Saturday and fell 7-6.

Tina Feliciano made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Alivia Nokes, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.

Richlands' victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-4. As for Dixon, their loss dropped their record down to 7-12.

Richlands was able to grind out a solid win over Dixon in their previous matchup back in March, winning 6-3. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
