Basketball Recap: Demetrius Elliot's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Southern Wayne over South Johnston

Southern Wayne was the 68-61 winner over South Johnston when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Southern Wayne Saints lost to the South Johnston Trojans at home by a 53-35 margin on Wednesday. The contest marked the Saints' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Several Saints players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Demetrius Elliot, who went 6 for 10 en route to 15 points. Another player making a difference was Jayden Moore, who posted ten points and eight boards.

Southern Wayne's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-10. As for South Johnston, the win got them back to even at 7-7.

Southern Wayne will square off against Fike at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Fike knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 games -- so hopefully Southern Wayne likes a good challenge. As for South Johnston, they will head out on the road to take on East Wake at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. East Wake will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something South Johnston surely won't give up without a fight.
