Baseball Recap: Advance Takes a Loss

After flying high against Leopold on Tuesday, Advance came back down to earth. The Hornets took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Woodland Cardinals on Thursday. If the Hornets were looking for revenge after losing 4-3 to the Cardinals when the teams met back in May of 2021, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Jameson Hamlin put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Drew Welch was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. He has become a key player for Advance: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Braxton Kennedy, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Advance's record now sits at 9-11. As for Woodland, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Advance will head out to face off against St. Vincent at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Woodland, they will venture away from home to take on Clearwater at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
