Baseball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Conestoga Christian's Fourth in Last Five Outings

The Conestoga Christian Cougars were able to grind out a solid win over the Shalom Christian Academy Flames on Tuesday, taking the game 6-2.

Clark Brubacher made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off ten hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Conestoga Christian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-5 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bransen Weaver, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and five RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Clayton Zimmerman, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs.

Conestoga Christian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Shalom Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Conestoga Christian will head out to square off against Brandywine Heights Area at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bullets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.67 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Shalom Christian Academy, they will take on Camp Hill at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
