Basketball Recap: Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest Takes a Loss

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They lost 66-40 to the Pioneer Diamondbacks. If the Javelinas were looking for revenge after losing 68-44 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Pioneer's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Matthew Maldonado, who went 8 of 11 on his way to 21 points. That's the most points Maldonado has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Muhamed Shaath, who went 7 of 11 on his way to 16 points and three steals.

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest's loss dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Pioneer, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-13.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Vela the next time they take the court. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest will head out to face Vela at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, while Pioneer will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on January 7th.
