Basketball Recap: Hunter Wolverines vs. Kearns Cougars
Hunter hadn't done well against Kearns recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Hunter Wolverines came out on top in a nail-biter against the Kearns Cougars, sneaking past 51-48. Hunter had a senior duo take command as Keaton Miller dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds and Dominick Phanolath dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for Phanolath. Another player making a difference was Samiu Taukiuvea, who posted six points and five boards.
Hunter was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kearns only racked up eight assists.
Kearns lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kayden Stark, who had nine points along with five rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Cruz, who went 6 for 13 on his way to 16 points and five boards.
Hunter moved to 6-12 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Kearns, they dropped their record down to 9-9 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Hunter will take on West Jordan at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hunter is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.9 points per game this season. As for Kearns, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 71-43 defeat against Granger on the 31st.
