Basketball Recap: The Pilgrim Academy Takes a Loss

The Pilgrim Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 75-62 to the Oakcrest Falcons. The Pioneers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Falcons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why The Pilgrim Academy lost, don't look at Luke McGonagle. Despite the final result, he went 7-for-10 from beyond the arc on his way to 23 points. What's more, McGonagle also posted a 67% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's achieved since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mason Parmer, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, The Pilgrim Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matches.

The Pilgrim Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Oakcrest, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 7-10 record this season.

Looking ahead, The Pilgrim Academy will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Atlantic County Institute of Tech at 5:30 p.m. The Pilgrim Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.6 points per game this season. Oakcrest does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
