Softball Recap: Service Comes Up Short

After flying high against Dimond on Wednesday, Service came back down to earth. The Cougars came up short against the Chugiak Mustangs on Wednesday, falling 25-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-0 last Wednesday.

Kira Williams was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Maliana Tavai also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Service's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8-1. As for Chugiak, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.

Looking ahead, Service will venture away from home to take on West Anchorage at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.25 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Chugiak, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bartlett at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Golden Bears have averaged an impressive 9.9 runs per game this season.
