Baseball Recap: Castro Valley Continues Home Dominance on Wednesday

Castro Valley hadn't done well against Berkeley recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Trojans put the hurt on the Yellowjackets with a sharp 7-1 win. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.

Scott Baldwin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Castro Valley let Alex Nicol and David Colon run wild. Nicol went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI, while Colon scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases Colon has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Anthony Mares, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Castro Valley pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 6.4 runs. As for Berkeley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.

Castro Valley will have a chance to go back-to-back against Berkeley: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
