Baseball Game Preview: Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks vs. Durango Trailblazers

The Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks will hit the road for the first time this season to square off against the Durango Trailblazers at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Cheyenne Mountain is headed out to face Durango after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. Cheyenne Mountain narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Pueblo West 5-4.

Colin Downs was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Noah Reickert, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, the third road matchup was the charm for Durango, as they earned their first road win of the season. They came out on top against Bonanza by a score of 8-3 on Tuesday. The Trailblazers haven't had any issues with the Bengals recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

The team relied heavily on Jon Turner, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. He also brought in two RBI, marking his first of the season. Aiden Farrell was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

Durango kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Cheyenne Mountain suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Durango when the teams last played back in March of 2016. Can Cheyenne Mountain avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
