Volleyball Recap: Evansville Central Bears vs. Mt. Vernon Wildcats

Evansville Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They lost 3-0 to the Mt. Vernon Wildcats. The Bears were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Evansville Central was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the first set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-18, 25-20.

Amiya Wheeler paced Evansville Central's offense, picking up 13 kills. Wheeler got some help from Bailey DuPont and her ten assists. Lauren Lowe controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Mt. Vernon had a senior duo take command as Hannah McNeece had 32 digs and two assists and Maiya Jones had 12 digs and four aces. With that strong performance, Jones is now averaging an impressive 2 aces per game.

Evansville Central's loss dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Mt. Vernon, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-12.

Evansville Central has already played their next match, a 3-1 defeat against Boonville on the 27th. As for Mt. Vernon, they will head out on the road to challenge Gibson Southern at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
