Soccer Recap: Charleston Takes a Loss

Charleston lost against Mt. Zion back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Trojans came up short against the Braves, falling 9-0. While losing is never fun, Charleston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 314th, while Mt. Zion are ranked 127th).

Charleston's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Mt. Zion, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Charleston will take on Taylorville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Charleston will be up against Taylorville's rather soft defense (which has allowed 3.11 goals per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Mt. Zion, they will face off against Centennial at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mt. Zion's defense better be ready for this one: Centennial have averaged an impressive 3.5 goals per game this season.
