Football Recap: Ridge View Falls Short Against Ranked Sumter + How To Watch

Ridge View faced Sumter in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Blazers took a 36-29 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gamecocks. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Blazers, who until this matchup were averaging 14.11 points allowed.

Despite the loss, Ridge View still got an impressive performance from Spencer Bobian, who rushed for 136 yards and three touchdowns. Bobian's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his sixth straight game with at least 116 rushing yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Bijon Virgo, who threw for 237 yards and one TD.

Leading Sumter to victory were Franklin Richardson and Cayon Gordon. Richardson rushed for 91 yards and four scores, while Gordon rushed for 131 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries. That's the most rushing yards Richardson has posted since back in November of 2024.

The defeat snapped Ridge View's winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 6-3 record. As for Sumter, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1.

The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,092 yards in their previous games. Meanwhile, Sumter is set to take on their familiar foe Westwood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
