Preview: Madison Patriots vs. Hiwassee Dam Eagles
Madison has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. After both having extra time off, the Madison Patriots and the Hiwassee Dam Eagles will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 11:00 a.m. on December 27th. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Madison has not done well against Mitchell recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way last Friday. The stars were shining brightly for Madison in a 35-19 victory over Mitchell.
Madison got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Shelby Reece out in front who scored ten points. Reece continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of McKenzie Price, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Hiwassee Dam came tearing into last Friday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 60-52 win over Highlands. Given Hiwassee Dam's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 162nd, while Highlands is ranked 530th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Madison's record is now 3-5. As for Hiwassee Dam, they pushed their record up to 7-1 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
