Basketball Recap: Meridian Mustangs vs. McCool Junction Mustangs
Meridian lost against McCool Junction back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Meridian Mustangs took a 51-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the McCool Junction Mustangs.
Meridian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaylee Sobotka, who went 8 of 18 en route to 19 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. That was a full 45.2% of Meridian's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taelyn Filipi, who had 12 points along with eight boards and three steals.
Claire Brugger was a one-woman wrecking crew for McCool Junction as she went 8 of 10 on her way to 16 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. Meridian's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for McCool Junction, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-5.
