Softball Preview: Orange Vista Coyotes vs. Sultana Sultans

The Orange Vista Coyotes will take on the Sultana Sultans at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Orange Vista is headed into the contest having just posted their closest win since February 13, 2024 on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Citrus Valley 6-4.

Ciera Overton made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Overton was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Macai Johnson was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Danielle Zabala was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Orange Vista was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Citrus Valley only posted a batting average of .214.

Meanwhile, Sultana never let their opponents score on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Los Osos as Sultana made off with an 8-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Sultans.

Not much got past Savannah Vanderpool, who gave up just three hits and racked up 13 Ks to keep Los Osos off the board.

On the hitting side, Sultana got a big performance out of Camilla Casillas, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, Casillas posted two hits, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Isabel Avalos, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Sultana pushed their record up to 2-0 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Orange Vista, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
