Softball Recap: Owen Drops Highest Score of Season Against Mitchell

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Owen). They put the hurt on the Mitchell Mountaineers with a sharp 18-3 victory on Tuesday. The Warhorses have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Mountaineers, too.

Hannah Norton and Mia Roland did most of the damage at the plate: Norton got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Roland scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Norton also snagged a stolen base, marking her first of the season. Payten Brockman was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Owen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mitchell only posted an OBP of .421.

The win made it two in a row for Owen and bumps their season record up to 9-3. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Mitchell, they dropped their record down to 5-9 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Owen will square off against Avery County at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mitchell will be paying especially close attention to the Warhorses' matchup: after the Warhorses faces off against the Vikings, they'll take on Mitchell again at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
