Basketball Recap: Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger Takes a Loss

Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 53-48 heartbreaker at the hands of the Huntington North Vikings. The Saints lost against the Vikings in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 55-21 score last time.

Despite the defeat, Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger saw an underclassman step up: freshman Anne Obrien went 5 for 10 on her way to 22 points and six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Obrien has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzie Eke, who went 6 of 13 on her way to 16 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Huntington North, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season.

Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger will be playing in front of their home fans against Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Huntington North, they will venture away from home to square off against Leo at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Huntington North is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
