Meanwhile, Gates County won against Tarboro on Tuesday with 19 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Gates County put the hurt on Tarboro with a sharp 19-3 win. Considering the Red Barons have won six matches by more than 11 runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Hailey Bauer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.
In other batting news, Gates County got a massive performance out of Zoey Nowell, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kamryn Riddick, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Gates County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .679. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The victory made it two in a row for Gates County and bumps their season record up to 6-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.0 runs over those games. As for North East Carolina Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.
North East Carolina Prep might still be hurting after the 16-1 loss they got from Gates County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can North East Carolina Prep avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
