Softball Recap: Mt. Vernon's Run of Five Straight Victories Now Over

Mt. Vernon and Freeburg squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Mt. Vernon had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Midgets by a score of 1-0. The Rams' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Danicah Tobin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 16 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mt. Vernon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Arwin Wilkey, who went 2-for-4 with one double.

Mt. Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 16-11. As for Freeburg, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-12 record this season.

As of now, neither Mt. Vernon nor Freeburg have any future games scheduled.
