The Memorial Day Matadors will look to defend their home court on Thursday against The Habersham School Patriots at 5:00 p.m.
Last Tuesday, Memorial Day ended up a good deal behind Thomas Heyward Academy and lost 45-30. Memorial Day has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Memorial Day saw an underclassman step up: Jaylnn Brown scored 9 points along with 12 rebounds and 4 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlotte Simon, who scored 3 points along with 12 rebounds.
Even though The Habersham School has not done well against Savannah Christian recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Habersham School skirted past Savannah Christian 37-34.
The Habersham School found their leader in underclassman Myla Shippy, who scored 15 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Shippy has scored at least 25% of The Habersham School's points. Maddie Viles was another key contributor, scoring 7 points along with 11 rebounds.
The losses dropped Memorial Day to 0-2 and Thomas Heyward Academy to 1-1.
Memorial Day came up short against The Habersham School in their previous meeting back in January, falling 44-39. Can Memorial Day avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
