Flag Football Recap: Costa Mesa Beats Katella for Their Third Straight Win

Costa Mesa got themselves on the board against Katella on Wednesday, but Katella never followed suit. They came out on top against the Knights by a score of 13-0. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 19-6 last Thursday.

Costa Mesa found their leader in freshman Emma Freeland, who threw for 212 yards and two TDs, and also rushed for 73 yards on only nine carries. 99 of Freeland's passing yards were hauled in by Kassandra Ramirez.

Costa Mesa's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Myah Martinez.

The win (which was Costa Mesa's third in a row) raised their record to 11-6. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 6.0 points on average over those games. As for Katella, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Costa Mesa is set to face off against their familiar foe Buena Park at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Mustangs 10.3, the Coyotes 12.5) so any points scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Katella will square off against rival Garden Grove at 3:15 p.m. on Monday.
