Basketball Recap: Monument Academy Comes Up Short

Monument Academy played a tough contest on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 48-11 defeat at the hands of the Pikes Peak Christian Eagles. The Lynx were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 24-3.

Monument Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Laura Cano, who posted four points along with nine boards and five steals. She is becoming a predictor of Monument Academy's success: when she posts at least five steals the team is 3-1 (and 5-6 when she doesn't). Penny Schulz was another key player, putting up four points and six rebounds.

Pikes Peak Christian was led to victory by Megan Ferguson and Bella Fletcher. Ferguson dropped a double-double with ten points and 11 boards, while Fletcher dropped a triple-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 steals. The dominant performance also gave Ferguson a new career-high in steals (seven). Another player making a difference was Annaliece Fisher, who went 6-for-15 on her way to 13 points and five steals.

Monument Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season. Pikes Peak Christian's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-14.

Monument Academy has already played their next game, a 42-16 loss against Miami-Yoder on the 26th. As for Pikes Peak Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 56-35 victory against Liberty Tree Academy on the 27th.
