While Jefferson put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Lanier. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Voks with a sharp 17-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Voks: they've now won eight in a row.
Justin Ruiz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Aiden Urdiales was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Jayden Alvarado also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Jefferson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .735. They are 5-2 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The victory got Jefferson back to even at 11-11. As for Lanier, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11-1.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Jefferson is set to take on their familiar foe Highlands at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Lanier will square off against rival Edison at 6:00 p.m. on the 16th.
