Softball Game Preview: Eastern Wayne Warriors vs. West Craven Eagles

The Eastern Wayne Warriors will challenge the West Craven Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Eastern Wayne is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

Eastern Wayne easily dispatched North Pitt on Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Warriors fell just short of Washington by a score of 7-5 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Warriors have suffered since March 18th.

Mallory Reed put in work while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 23 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Lyric Hagens was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

Meanwhile, West Craven was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against SouthWest Edgecombe, falling 13-2. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by exactly 11 runs.

West Craven saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Angelina Smith, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.

West Craven's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Eastern Wayne, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
