Soccer Recap: St. Petersburg Comes Up Short

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, St. Petersburg couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. While the 3-3 score might suggest a draw, it was the North Fort Myers Red Knights who were credited with the victory on Friday. The North Fort Myers Red Knights got it done in the shootout by posting four goals to the St. Petersburg Green Devils' three. While losing is never fun, the Green Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Red Knights are ranked ninth).

St. Petersburg's loss dropped their record down to 13-5. As for North Fort Myers, the win (which was their 17th in a row) raised their record to 20-2.

St. Petersburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for North Fort Myers, they will host Braden River at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. North Fort Myers is on a nine-game streak of home wins, Braden River a seven-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the pitch.
