Artesia faced Goddard in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Bulldogs fell 3-1 to the Rockets. The Bulldogs' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 23-25, 25-12, 25-23.

Kailee Padilla paced Artesia's offense, picking up 18 kills. Padilla got some help from Kirklyn Miller and her 40 assists. Ashton Craft controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

The defeat was their first at home , dropping their record down to 15-4. As for Goddard, they pushed their record up to 17-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Artesia will take on rival Lovington at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Goddard is set to square off against their familiar foe Portales at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
