Basketball Game Preview: South Mountain Jaguars vs. Basha Bears

The South Mountain Jaguars will head out to square off against the Basha Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

South Mountain is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Coronado 62-18 last Saturday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Jaguars with their most commanding win of the season.

Meanwhile, Basha came into Saturday's matchup having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. The stars were shining brightly for them in a 56-42 victory over Mater Dei Catholic back in December of 2024. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 64th in Arizona, while the Crusaders are ranked 329th in California), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Basha's win came from a few key players South Mountain will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Grace Beckler, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Amira Reynolds, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 12 points and five rebounds.

Basha smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in nine consecutive contests.

South Mountain's record now sits at 5-7. As for Basha, their record now sits at 9-6.
