Football Game Preview: Central Catholic Buttons vs. Antonian Prep Apaches

The Central Catholic Buttons will venture away from home to square off against the Antonian Prep Apaches at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Central Catholic's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last three matchups.

On Friday, Central Catholic didn't have too much trouble with St. Pius X as they won 31-12. The Buttons pushed the score to 31-6 by the end of the third, a deficit the Panthers cut but never quite recovered from.

Central Catholic didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Marc Luna and Noah Reynosa. Luna has been hot, having also posted ten or more total tackles the last five times he's played. Reynosa got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Antonian Prep didn't have quite enough to beat Concordia Lutheran on Friday and fell 40-38. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (35), the Apaches still had to take the loss.

Central Catholic will have to contain Rogan Parson as he made an impact in Antonian Prep's last game. He threw for 431 yards and four TDs, and also rushed for 43 yards and one score. Parson's passing game has become a key predictor of Antonian Prep's success: the team is 3-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 2-3 otherwise. 89 of Parson's passing yards were hauled in by Zach Lavin.

Central Catholic's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.3 points over those games. As for Antonian Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.

Central Catholic and Antonian Prep were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, but Central Catholic came up empty-handed after a 42-41 defeat. Can the Buttons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
