Basketball Recap: Onaga Takes a Loss

Onaga was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were beaten by the Axtell Eagles 71-36. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Buffaloes of the 66-32 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Onaga lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Casen Hutfles, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Hutfles a new career-high in blocks (four). Another player making a difference was Jackson Kolterman, who posted 12 points and five boards.

Onaga's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Axtell, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-1.

After both having extra time off, Onaga and Wabaunsee will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 4:45 p.m. on January 28th. As for Axtell, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Doniphan West on January 28th. Axtell knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Doniphan West likes a good challenge.
