Baseball Recap: Battle Mountain's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

Battle Mountain dropped their record down to 10-11 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell 9-4 to the Yerington Lions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-0 back in March.

Battle Mountain saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daniel Lara, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Lara is becoming a predictor of the Longhorns' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 7-10 when he doesn't).

As for Yerington, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

On Yerington's side, Toby Juarez was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Juarez has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyson Shramek, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Alexis Martinez, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Yerington beat Battle Mountain by a score of 8-3 on Saturday.
