Softball Game Preview: Stoneman Douglas Eagles vs. Taravella Trojans

Stoneman Douglas has gone a perfect 10-0 against Taravella recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Trojans at 5:00 p.m. Stoneman Douglas' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Taravella's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Stoneman Douglas gave up the first runs last Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 4-1 win over Monarch. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Addison Zajkowski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Stoneman Douglas saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucia Perez, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Hanka Kardos also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Taravella came up short against Coral Glades two weeks ago, falling 18-2. The Trojans have struggled against the Jaguars recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Stoneman Douglas' win bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Taravella, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.

Stoneman Douglas took their victory against Taravella when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
