Softball Game Preview: Coleman Cougars vs. Peshtigo Bulldogs

The Coleman Cougars will head out to take on the Peshtigo Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Thursday, it was close, but Coleman sidestepped Crivitz for a 5-3 victory. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Wolverines: they've now won nine in a row.

Makenzie Nowak made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Nowak was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Nowak wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Annabell Markiewicz, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Hope Forner was another, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Peshtigo strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They never let Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran get on the board and left with a 4-0 victory.

The result came thanks to Lainey Weddel's shutout, as she gave up just five hits.

On the hitting side, Nevaeh Russell was incredible, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Cameron Finger, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Coleman's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Peshtigo, their record now sits at 3-0.

Coleman couldn't quite finish off Peshtigo in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 and fell 2-0. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
