Basketball Game Preview: Turner Golden Bears vs. Shawnee Heights Thunderbirds

Turner is 0-10 against Shawnee Heights since January of 2020 but things could change on Tuesday. The Turner Golden Bears will host the Shawnee Heights Thunderbirds at 7:15 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Turner is coming into the matchup on the come-up as their season has now been buoyed by two straight victories. They snuck past Tonganoxie with a 56-50 win on Friday.

Turner relied on the efforts of Mekhi Follick, who went 5 of 9 en route to 18 points along with five boards and three steals, and Tyland Mcgee, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Mcgee is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least nine every time he's taken the court this season. Sedric Scott was another key player, putting up five points and four steals.

Turner was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Shawnee Heights didn't have too much trouble with West on Friday as they won 66-48. The victory was nothing new for the Thunderbirds as they're now sitting on five straight.

Shawnee Heights pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.5 points per game. As for Turner, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-9.
