Football Game Preview: Avon Park Red Devils vs. Lakeland Dreadnaughts

The Avon Park Red Devils will face off against the Lakeland Dreadnaughts at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Avon Park has five straight wins, Lakeland has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Avon Park had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 20-point drubbing they dealt Frostproof on Friday. The Red Devils' defense stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 20-0 shutout. Considering the Red Devils have won four contests by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Kamila Watt produced another solid effort rushing for 88 yards and one TD on only five carries. Her longest rush was for an impressive 60 yards, which helps to explain her lofty yards per carry total. J'Nariah Anderson was another key player, picking up 40 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, Lakeland didn't have quite enough to beat Davenport back in March and fell 8-6.

Avon Park pushed their record up to 8-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 2.4 points on average over those games. As for Lakeland, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

Avon Park came up short against Lakeland in their previous meeting back in February, falling 13-8. Can the Red Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
