Baseball Recap: Alonso Comes Up Short

Durant hit Alonso with a four-run first inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Ravens fell 8-5 to the Cougars. The Ravens have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Alonso got a good showing from Marcelo Diaz Villalon, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Diaz Villalon has become a key player for the Ravens: the team is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-7 otherwise.

At the plate, Jordan Campos made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Johnny Rodriguez, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Alonso's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Durant, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-6.

Looking ahead, Alonso will challenge Sumner at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Ravens' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Stingrays have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Durant, they will face off against Wharton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cougars 3.9, the Wildcats 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
