Football Recap: Hoisington Cardinals vs. Lakin Broncs
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Cheney, Hoisington was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 48-31 victory over the Lakin Broncs. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cardinals also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2023.
It was another big night for Teron Kraft, who rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in November of 2023.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Hoisington was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 245 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 216 rushing yards in five consecutive matchups.
Hoisington didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Jason Robinson, Mason Martin, and Kyler Dean Russell picked up one apiece.
Several Broncs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Timothy Johnson, who picked up 91 receiving yards and three touchdowns. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 60 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Ross Rider, who rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries.
Hoisington's win bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Lakin, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2.
Hoisington has already played their next match, a 35-8 victory against Larned on the 18th. As for Lakin, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 22-14 win against Colby on the 18th.
