Softball Game Preview: Boron Bobcats vs. Desert Scorpions

The Boron Bobcats will square off against the Desert Scorpions at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Boron has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Boron is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering California City just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 18-2 to the Ravens.

Meanwhile, Desert got the win against Lee Vining on Saturday by a conclusive 16-6. The Scorpions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by ten runs or more this season.

Alayna Phillips was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off two hits. Phillips was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Hayden Escobar was a standout: she scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Rogers, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-4.

Desert always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .694. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Desert pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Boron, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.

Boron couldn't quite get it done against Desert in their previous matchup on March 1st as they fell 13-8. Can Boron avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
