Softball Game Preview: Monte Vista Mustangs vs. Amador Valley Dons

Monte Vista hasn't had much luck against Amador Valley recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Mustangs will take on the Dons at 4:00 p.m.

Monte Vista is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Thursday. They fell 4-1 to Carondelet.

Monte Vista saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Leyden, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Amador Valley hadn't done well against Livermore recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Dons walked away with an 8-5 win over the Cowboys.

Kaylee Davis made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Abbie Hiller was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Madi Howe also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.

Amador Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Monte Vista's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Amador Valley, their record now sits at 8-9.

Monte Vista came up short against Amador Valley when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 6-3. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
