Basketball Recap: Dekaney Comes Up Short

If Dekaney was riding high fresh off their 70-40 takedown of Aldine on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildcats were dealt a 69-30 loss at the hands of the Westfield Mustangs on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 52-24 back in December of 2025.

Saniya Broomfield was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 21 points and ten steals for Westfield. Broomfield has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. Ja'Leyah Philpot was another key player, dropping a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards.

Dekaney's defeat dropped their record down to 5-18. As for Westfield, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 14-8.

Dekaney has already played their next matchup, a 58-46 loss against Benjamin Davis on the 27th. As for Westfield, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 79-33 victory against Nimitz on the 27th.
