Basketball Game Preview: Loveland Classical Lions vs. Simla Cubs

The Loveland Classical Lions will take on the Simla Cubs at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Loveland Classical's defense has only allowed 28.5 points per game this season, so Simla's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Last Tuesday, Loveland Classical beat Golden View Classical Academy 47-38. The victory continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Sentinels: they've now won six in a row.

Kaelyn Doan was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double with 29 points and nine steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Loveland Classical's points. Keira Doan was another key player, putting up four points and ten steals.

Meanwhile, Simla had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They breezed past the Bulldogs to the tune of 61-20. The Cubs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matches by 30 points or more this season.

Loveland Classical better focus on containing Haylee Easler and Carlee Cox as the pair were huge in Simla's win. Easler shot 64% from the field en route to 16 points and three steals, while Cox went 6-for-11 on her way to 13 points along with eight steals and six boards. The dominant performance gave Easler a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Kerst, who posted nine points and six rebounds.

Simla smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Loveland Classical's record now sits at 13-9. As for Simla, their record now sits at 17-5.
