Football Recap: Shoals Christian Takes a Loss

Shoals Christian came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They had to suffer through a 64-18 loss at the hands of the Sheffield Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Flame of the 67-28 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2024.

Gus Strickland threw for 191 yards and one TD. Jack Strickland was his top target, picking up 81 receiving yards.

Sheffield's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaylen Gangar led the charge by rushing for 116 yards and a pair of scores on only nine carries. Another player making a difference was Bryant Doll, who rushed for 31 yards and two touchdowns.

Shoals Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Sheffield, they moved to 3-7 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Looking ahead, Shoals Christian will face off against Appalachian at 7:00 p.m. on the 7th. The Flame will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least 31 points in their last three matchups. Sheffield does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
