Basketball Game Preview: Crawfordsville Athenians vs. McCutcheon Mavericks

Crawfordsville hasn't had much luck against McCutcheon recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Crawfordsville Athenians are taking a road trip to take on the McCutcheon Mavericks at 7:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Last Thursday, Crawfordsville was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 58-53 to Western Boone. The Athenians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, McCutcheon entered their match against Lafayette Jefferson on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. McCutcheon came up short against Lafayette Jefferson, falling 68-46. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Mavericks have suffered against the Bronchos since November 30, 2021.

Despite the loss, McCutcheon saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brody Baker posted 16 points. Baker's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Souligne, who put up nine points.

Crawfordsville's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for McCutcheon, the loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 9-6.

Crawfordsville took a serious blow against McCutcheon when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 71-36. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Souligne, who went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc on his way to 23 points. Now that Crawfordsville knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
