Baseball Recap: Canyon Takes a Loss

Canyon had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 18-9 to make it four. They fell just short of the La Habra Highlanders by a score of 5-3. The Comanches were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Highlanders earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

Kyle Nulph and Jonathan Sandoval stepped up to the plate in a big way. Nulph went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Sandoval went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Camden Goetz also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

As for La Habra, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games.

On La Habra's side, Angel Acuna looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Acuna has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Anthony Gomez was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Gandara, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: La Habra beat Canyon by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday.
