Baseball Game Preview: Langtree Charter Academy Lions vs. North Mecklenburg Vikings

The Langtree Charter Academy Lions will venture away from home to square off against the North Mecklenburg Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Lions fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Thursday's season opener. They walked away with a 5-0 win over Central Academy on Thursday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Lions as it put an end to their four-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Easton Roschke was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Roschke was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, David Kusz was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles.

Meanwhile, North Mecklenburg gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by an 18-3 margin over Huss.

The team relied heavily on Ryan Clark, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played. Ran Diaz was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

North Mecklenburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .350 or higher in six consecutive contests dating back to last season.
