Volleyball Recap: Layton Lancers vs. Fremont Silverwolves

Layton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Fremont Silverwolves. The Lancers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Silverwolves earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

Layton actually scored more points across those five sets (104-103), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 17-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 15-10.

Sam Pizarro Guiral paced Layton's offense, picking up 19 kills. Pizarro Guiral got some help from Ben Peterson and his 22 assists. Cody Lambert controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.

Leading Fremont to victory were John Suka and Cooper Toyn. Suka had 16 digs and two assists, while Toyn had four digs and two aces. That's the most digs Suka has posted since back in March. Nathan Broadbent also deserves some recognition as he had his first kill of the season.

Layton's defeat dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Fremont, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 6-13.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Layton will take on rival Weber at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Fremont is set to challenge their familiar foe Farmington at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
