Basketball Recap: Sophia Baca's Big Game Can't Quite Lead St. Patrick's over Overton

St. Patrick lost against Overton back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The St. Patrick's Irish received a blow as they fell 56-39 to the Overton Eagles. The Irish have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

St. Patrick's lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Sophia Baca, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Phelps, who posted nine points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, St. Patrick's smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Overton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Daisy Ryan out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Ryan has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Braelyn Florell, who had 14 points and four steals.

St. Patrick's defeat dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Overton, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-5.

St. Patrick's is taking a road trip to take on Hershey at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hershey knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully St. Patrick's likes a good challenge. As for Overton, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 49-35 victory against Bertrand on the 18th.
